RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The British and Commonwealth Society (BSC) is celebrating the Queen’s birthday this Saturday, June 8th with a party at 4PM in Jubilee Hall, Botafogo. The British Consul General Paula Walsh and Reverend Ben Phillips will be in attendance at this celebration in honor of Queen Elizabeth II.
Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday, a British tradition and public holiday, will be celebrated with a Special High Tea event sponsored by Anne Phillips of the Cop Palace and a champagne “Loyal Toast to the Queen” by the British Consul General, Paula Walsh. This will be followed by a choir’s rendition of “God Save the Queen” and a birthday cake in honor of the monarch.
The event will feature many activities for children, such as a fancy dress competition as princes and princesses, raffles for many prizes and other fun activities. Soft drinks and sandwiches will be provided for the children.
The festivities will begin at 4PM with games for the children in the sports patio of Jubilee Hall and go on until 7:30 PM.
Queen Elizabeth II is the constitutional monarch of the United Kingdom and all Commonwealth States. She is 87 years of age and her 61-year reign over the UK is the second longest for any British monarch, after Queen Victoria.
The Queen’s actual birthday is on April 21th, but it is traditionally celebrated in late May or early June because this is when the UK is most likely to have better weather.
The British and Commonwealth Society is an organization to bring together and support members and institutions of the British and Commonwealth community in Rio de Janeiro.
