RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Jam Rio, a new musical movement bringing new and talented composers into the Carioca spotlight, is kicking off this Thursday at Botafogo’s artsy Oztel Bar. Showcasing a combination of vocal and instrumental artists performing original music every other week, Jam Rio is launching in style on June 6th with unique blend of jazz infused with Brazilian percussion, courtesy of Scott Feiner & Pandeiro Jazz.
Feiner’s type of jazz music, known as Pandeiro Jazz after the instrument, the pandeiro, has in the past been acclaimed as “a fine light illuminating the path between popular Brazilian music and jazz,” by Jornal do Brasil.
Last week Feiner also launched a crowdfunding campaign to finish and release his 4th CD, which will be called “A View from Below”. He composed all of the music on the recording and is joined by two renowned musicians – Guilherme Monteiro on guitar and Rafael Vernet on keyboards.
Jam Rio is a project by cultural producers, Marcella Linhares and Mari Mattos, alongside singer-songwriter Lili Araújo, the concert series hopes to promote new artists and different kinds of music in a relaxed and charming environment. Good taste, creative music, and fresh talent are sure to converge at Jam Rio.
The Oztel Bar and Hostel in Botafogo is an intimate and quirky venue in one of Rio’s trendiest neighborhoods. Refreshing cocktails, innovative hors d’oeuvres and tantalizing appetizers are on the menu.
