RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, reported Tuesday, June 22, that 72% of the country’s indigenous population has already been vaccinated against Covid-19 with both doses.

The statement came during a meeting with Supreme Court Justice Luis Roberto Barroso, rapporteur of the lawsuit calling for stronger protection for indigenous peoples during the pandemic.

The hearings were led by Barroso, who also spoke with indigenous community leaders, the Minister of Defense, General Braga Netto, and the federal Solicitor General, André Mendonça.

During the meeting, Braga Netto clarified that the budgetary issues were “overcome” and that the Armed Forces will support the Federal Police in executing the plan to isolate invaders on indigenous lands.
