São Paulo Nightlife Guide for Tuesday, May 19, 2026

· May 19, 2026 · 07:00 BRT · 8 min read

Tonight in São Paulo

Tuesday São Paulo nightlife runs the week’s sharpest single booking. Arto Lindsay — the North American No Wave guitarist raised in Pernambuco, founder of DNA and Ambitious Lovers, producer of Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Tom Zé, David Byrne, Marisa Monte, Carlinhos Brown and Ilê Aiyê — does a solo show at Bona Casa de Música at 20h, with Thiago Nassif opening. R$70–R$140 via Eventim. 120-cap room in Sumaré.

Blue Note SP reopens after the Monday dark with a double bill: Musicman Jazz playing Miles Davis’s “Kind of Blue” at 20h, plus Felipe Brito’s Tributo a Martin Luther King Jr at 22h30. The Musicman Jazz collective’s 1959-jazz-album series continues — last week was Mingus Ah Um, this week the canonical one.

At Casa de Francisca: Benício Guimarães at the Porão 21h30 — the 77-year-old alagoano sanfoneiro, forró pé de serra arquiteto, first 100 entries free. Football context: São Paulo FC vs Millonarios at Morumbis 21h30 (Copa Sul-Americana on SBT, ESPN, Disney+). Weather: cool wet — 18°C, 40% rain, cloudy.

Tonight’s reduced choice. Arto Lindsay at Bona 20h (Eventim, R$70–R$140). Blue Note SP double bill 20h + 22h30. Benício Guimarães at Casa de Francisca 21h30 (first 100 free). D-Edge, Cine Joia, Espaço Unimed, Tokio Marine Hall all dark Tuesday.

If You Only Do One Thing HIGH

Arto Lindsay at Bona. Solo with the atonal coruscating guitar. Lindsay’s CV is in the genre’s foundational tier: founder of NYC No Wave with DNA, the Ambitious Lovers project that fused samba + R’n’B + experimentalism, and the producer credit list that includes Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Tom Zé, David Byrne, Marisa Monte, Carlinhos Brown and Ilê Aiyê. The solo set at Bona is his standing format: atonal guitar, melodic voice, autorais plus selections from “outras tradições”. Thiago Nassif opens 20 min: voz / guitar / synth, loops and beats. Two artists whose collaborative discography includes Lindsay’s Cuidado Madame (2017), Nassif’s Três (2018, produced by Lindsay) and the new Dobra de Língua released this month. 120 cap, R$70–R$140 Eventim. Skip the Kind of Blue tribute unless you’ve already done Mingus Ah Um last week and want the through-line — Arto is the kind of booking SP gets two or three times a year.

Top Picks Tonight

Arto Lindsay — Solo at Bona, Thiago Nassif Opens

20h · R. Dr. Paulo Vieira 101 · Sumaré · 120 cap · R$70–R$140 · Eventim

Arto Lindsay — born North American, raised in Pernambuco from age 5, returned to NYC and founded the No Wave group DNA with Ikue Mori and Tim Wright. His band Ambitious Lovers (with Peter Scherer) developed the samba / R’n’B / experimental hybrid that anchored downtown NYC’s Brazil-fascination years.

As a producer he has been responsible for Caetano Veloso’s Estrangeiro (1989) and subsequent records, Gal Costa, Tom Zé’s late-career reactivation, David Byrne (the early Latin-music-curated Luaka Bop projects), Marisa Monte, Carlinhos Brown and Ilê Aiyê — among many others. Since the mid-1990s he’s released solo records alongside the radical work. Tonight’s show is the standing solo format: atonal coruscating guitar, melodic voice, repertoire from autorais and the broader catalogue.

Thiago Nassif opens with a 20-minute solo set — voz / guitarra / synth with loops and electronic beats, featuring the percussive textural side of his autorais. Nassif’s catalogue includes Três (2018, produced by Lindsay), Mente (2020, Lindsay co-credited), and the brand-new Dobra de Língua launched at Bona on May 13. Bona at R. Dr. Paulo Vieira 101 in Sumaré, three minutes from Metro Vila Madalena.

Musicman Jazz “Kind of Blue” + Felipe Brito MLK Tribute — Blue Note SP

20h + 22h30 · Av. Paulista 2073 · Consolação · Eventim · Casa reopens after Mon dark

The Av. Paulista double bill. 20h: Musicman Jazz plays Miles Davis’s “Kind of Blue”, the 1959 album that defined modal jazz and remains the best-selling jazz album of all time (“So What”, “Freddie Freeloader”, “Blue in Green”, “All Blues”, “Flamenco Sketches”). The collective’s residency continues a series that worked through Mingus Ah Um last Thursday — both records came out of the 1959 jazz year.

22h30: Felipe Brito — Tributo a Martin Luther King Jr., an instrumental-jazz set staged around the 1968 King anniversary cycle (the cantor’s specific framing). Both sessions sold separately via Eventim. Conjunto Nacional 2º andar, Av. Paulista 2073, Metro Consolação direct. Casa reopens Tuesday after Monday’s full closure.

Benício Guimarães — Forró Pé de Serra at Casa de Francisca

Porão 21h30 · R. Quintino Bocaiúva 22 · Sé · First 100 free · ~R$88 antecipado

The forró night, the cool-wet-Tuesday-indoor pick.
