Avery*Sunshine brings her Grammy-winning soul to the Blue Note SP for two sessions tonight — and if you missed her at the Blue Note Rio on Wednesday, this is the second chance. Born Denise White in Chester, Pennsylvania, she began playing piano at eight, studied classical and jazz through her teens, became a gospel choir director, joined Tyler Perry’s productions, performed at Obama’s inauguration, opened for B.B. King, hit number one on Billboard with “Call My Name,” and won the 2025 Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album with “So Glad to Know You.” Her live show is famous for its energy: candid stage banter, humorous storytelling between songs, and a voice that reviewers have described as smooth and powerful enough to give goosebumps. She plays her own piano. Her husband and creative partner Dana “BigDane” Johnson co-produces. The sound spans neo-soul, gospel, R&B and jazz — all of it uplifting, all of it driven by the conviction that music should satisfy the soul. Tonight at 8 pm and 10:30 pm on the Conjunto Nacional’s second floor, above Av. Paulista, she does exactly that.

Twenty-four hours after the D-Edge Festival shook Komplexo Tempo with 50+ artists across five stages, the club on Av. Auro Soares de Moura Andrade returns to its regular Friday programming. Freak Chic is the Friday-night party — the house-leaning counterpart to Thursday’s Moving and Saturday’s NAVE. From midnight. Check @dedgeclub for tonight’s specific lineup — the post-festival Friday Freak Chic often carries residual energy from the festival week, with surprise guests and extended sets. The LED-panel walls, the two pistas, the rooftop terrace for the sunrise crowd — the same D-Edge infrastructure that hosted last night’s festival returns to its weekly format. The question tonight is not whether to go to D-Edge, but whether your legs have recovered from last night.

Friday at the Borogodó rivals Saturday for intensity. The room on Rua Horácio Lane fills from the moment doors open at 10 pm, and by 11 the samba roda is at full power — louder, faster, more physical than any other night of the week except Saturday. The crowd is a Friday mix: the Pinheiros dinner crowd migrating from Mourato Coelho, the post-work contingent who have been building toward this since Monday, visitors who found the Borogodó in a guidebook and are about to discover that the best samba in São Paulo happens in a plain room in Pinheiros with no decoration and no pretence. Five hours to 3 am. Arrive before 10:30 for a table. After that: standing, dancing, the beer from the counter, the music from the roda, the night at its most unfiltered.

Friday at the Casa is when all three stages of the Palacete Teresa run at peak: the Salão opens at 10 pm with the week’s marquee seated show, the Porão runs its own underground programme from 10 pm, and the Largo terrace has been running free DJs since 7 pm. Friday is when the Casa draws its biggest crowd — the Largo spills onto the sidewalk, the Porão fills to standing-room capacity, and the Salão runs to 1 am. Friday at Bar Brahma is the busiest night alongside Saturday — the art deco room at São João and Ipiranga at its loudest and most crowded, the live samba playing to a Friday audience that has been waiting all week. For visitors combining the Casa de Francisca (Sé) with Bar Brahma (Centro), Friday is the definitive Centro pairing: Largo free DJs at 7, dinner at Brahma at 8, back to the Palacete Teresa by 10 for the Salão or Porão show. The samba at Brahma is louder on Fridays. The chopp moves faster. The room feels like 1948 and 2026 at the same time.
