Rio’s MAR Music Program Kicks Off 2017 Celebrations on Friday

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Rio Art Museum (MAR) turned four years old this March, with a special program to celebrate. To round of the end of the month, the MAR’s annual series of music events, MAR de Música, kicks off this Friday with a special baile charme event set to take over the space.

Despite the early start, beginning at around 6PM and finishing up by 10PM, large crowds normally flock to the MAR de Música, in part due to the low entry cost and scenic setting but also due to the range of musical genres that play during the program’s duration.

Starting this year’s MAR de Música series, this Friday’s event will be run in partnership with concert venue Circo Voador. Rio-born DJ Michell will play during the baile charme, kicking off the season this Friday evening, with video artist VJ Ráton providing the evening’s visual displays and projections.

The MAR describes baile charme as “black culture of the suburbs of Rio”, and welcomes DJ Michell to bring the music and dancing to its event. Tickets costs just R$3 for Rio residents and other concessions, including, students, those under 21 years old, or those with tickets for the MAR or Circo Voador from March 2017.

The full price ticket remains a reasonable R$6 for the four hours of music and visual entertainment. Tickets are available from the MAR box office or on the door on the evening.
