On October 12, Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary celebrated the 91st anniversary of its inauguration.

To mark the date, a Thanksgiving mass was celebrated at 7 AM, presided over by the Archbishop of Rio, Cardinal Orani João Tempesta.

At 8:30 AM, the traditional commemorative cake was distributed, prepared by the traditional organization Sociedade Amigos da Rua da Carioca e Adjacências (Sarca).

At noon, the Angelus was recited, followed by a mass presided over by Father João Damasceno.

At 3 PM, the Rosary of Mercy was prayed, followed by a solemn mass broadcast by Radio Catedral from the Archdiocese of Rio.

Following the program, next Sunday, October 16, at 7:30 PM, the Shrine will hold a ceremony for World Food Day to alert to the importance of access to adequate and healthy food, a right of every human being.

The Christ the Redeemer monument will have a special light blue illumination.

The following week, on October 20, at 8 PM, the show “Nossa Voz” will be held, with Father Omar and the Dó Ré Mi Group, at the Qualistage show house, in Barra da Tijuca.

The show, whose proceeds will be donated to the social projects supported by the Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary, is a great way to thank life through the songs of King Roberto Carlos.

To close the festivities, the Sustainable Christ Sector will promote the Action of Love of Christ the Redeemer from October 20 to 22, at the Basilica of the Archdiocesan Marian Shrine of Our Lady of Penha de França, in the Penha neighborhood, starting every day at 9 AM and closing at 3 PM.

The Action of Love of Christ the Redeemer is an itinerant project which takes health, housing, work, education, and citizenship services to the population in situations of social vulnerability.
