Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke at the International Russia-Latin America Conference.

He underlined Latin America’s growing importance in world politics. He says these nations contribute to a fair, multipolar international system.

Putin expressed Russia’s eagerness for deeper bilateral ties with Latin America. He also supports their full membership in the BRICS group.

Putin wants these nations to strengthen their global economic and political positions.

Additionally, he mentioned that Russia will help Latin America connect with the Eurasian Economic Community.

This will cover topics like trade policies and technology transfers. However, he clarified that BRICS is not a military alliance but a platform for mutual benefits.

This conference saw attendance from Latin American legislators and public figures. Putin sees this as a sign of mutual interest in a beneficial partnership.

He believes parliamentary dialogue can lead to more diversified cooperation.

During his speech, Putin emphasized shared viewpoints between Russia and Latin America on international matters.

Furthermore, he pledged Russia’s support in natural disasters and combating extremism in these nations.

In closing, Putin criticized the modern financial system for serving only a few wealthy nations.

He accused them of exploiting their technological and informational advantages.

The Moscow conference, running from September 29 to October 2, features over 200 participants.

They represent diverse nations, mainly from Latin America and the Caribbean.

On the first day, Viacheslav Volodin, Russia’s State Duma President, met Amado Cerrud Acevedo, President of the Central American Parliament.

They discussed fostering a fairer global landscape.

Background Latin America’s Rising Global Role

The conference comes at a time when Russia is looking to diversify its diplomatic engagements.

Strengthening ties with Latin America serves multiple purposes for Russia. First, it helps Russia reduce its dependency on Western allies.

Second, it opens new avenues for economic cooperation and trade.

Putin’s emphasis on BRICS membership for Latin America hints at an alternative global alignment.
