Peru: Central highway project to establish logistics hub to boost economy

The Peruvian Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) informed that the review of the profile study of the project related to the Central Highway, a road that seeks to integrate the coast and the center of the country, aiming to become one of the main logistic axes that will dynamize the Peruvian economy, has begun.

In this way, the selected corridor of the new road that makes up the portfolio of interventions of the MTC and whose execution is assigned to Provías Nacional will be visited by engineers specialized in hydraulics, geometric design, hydrology, tunnels, structures, geotechnics, traffic, and environment, who will gather diverse information on the work to be executed.

It will also participate in the PMO Vías process, providing technical assistance to Provías Nacional with the costs within the framework of the contract signed between the Peruvian and French governments.

The tours began on Monday, September 26, and will conclude on October 4. So far, they have included visits to the areas of Ate, Lurín, Cieneguilla, Yauli, and Huarochirí.

It will allow consolidating the layout and verifying the locations of the bridges and viaducts to select the best type of structure and optimize such components of the project.

In addition, the new Central Highway profile study is scheduled to be completed in March 2023.

It will be followed by the Detailed Engineering Study (EDI), to be followed by the construction of the road in 2025.

This road was named Carretera Daniel Alcides Carrión. It is projected to be 185 kilometers long, have four lanes, and include bridges and tunnels. It will run through the provinces of Lima, Huarochirí, and Yauli.
