Open Galleries Art in Santa Teresa: Daily

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Art galleries in the bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa in Rio de Janeiro will open their doors on August 17th and 18th to the general public for the 23rd edition of Portas Abertas (Open Doors), which will showcase the latest work of more than fifty artists.

The best way to attend the annual festival is to stroll around the cobble-stoned streets of Santa Teresa and get to know hidden corners of the neighborhood. Around 30,000 visitors are expected to make their way up the hills.

There are 35 galleries, ateliers and studios opening their doors to get a glimpse of how and where the artists work and see or even buy one of their latest pieces.

The art event also offers the unique opportunity to talk to the artists about their works and to get to see the art world from its producing side.

Participating artists of the festival, organized by art collective Chave Mestra, include potters, artisans, painters, photographers and many others.

The doors of the galleries will be open between 11AM and 6PM. All galleries will be indicated by a yellow banner, but for a full list of participating galleries, also refer to this list.

Accompanying the art festival are several side events, such as the first international biennale of public occupation, also organized by Chave Mestra. The collective is planning an artistic occupation of Campo de Santana in Centro, where French, Argentinian and Brazilian artists will exhibit their pieces from August 17th until 25th.

There will also be speeches and workshops about art techniques in the neighborhood’s indie movie theater, Cine Santa in Santa Teresa on August 24th and September 21st.
