Gilson Martins Hosts Photo Exhib: Daily

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Galeria de Arte (Art Gallery) of Gilson Martins’ Ipanema store will host photographer Fabio Minduim’s “Peixe do Rio” (Fish of Rio) showing as it part of its art exhibition series that present fresh depictions of the city. The opening event will take place tonight in the store’s art gallery from 6PM to 9PM.

Famous for his photography of action sports, Brazilian photographer and owner/partner of Blackkat Studio of art, Minduim’s current exhibit focuses on Rio’s landscapes as seen from the waters surrounding the city.

Famous landmarks including Morro Dois Irmãos, which overlooks Leblon and Ipanema, the Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) statue and Pão de Açucar (The Sugarloaf) are shown in the images shot from the water. The camera lens captures a fish’s perspective of the Cidade Maravilhosa or “Marvelous City.”

The man behind the store hosting the exhibit, designer Gilson Martins is well-known for his handbag and accessory designs that represen the city through iconic images of Rio and Brazil. Earlier this year, his store presented a collection of handbags that celebrated scenes from Carnival.

Martins also loves to see how others, including his handbag designers, depict the city. As part of his ongoing art showing series, he has opened his art gallery’s space to various artists. Last month, Martins hosted “Silvia Carioca de Marajó,” artist and designer Silvia Coelho’s patchwork canvases of Rio.
