Brazil natural gas production in May up 17.7%, oil production down, 1.4% compared to April

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Natural gas production in Brazil increased 17.7% in May, compared to April, totaling 135 million cubic meters per day (m3/d). Compared to May 2020, the growth was 2.4%, informed the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP).

Oil production in the month totaled 2.932 million barrels per day (b/d), a 1.4% reduction compared to April and a 6% increase compared to May 2020. The sum of oil and gas production was 3.778 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d).

The pre-salt production was 2.129 million barrels of oil per day and 89.0 million m3/d of natural gas, totaling 2.689 million boe/d. There was a 2.6% reduction compared to the previous month and a 13.8% increase if compared to the same month in 2020. The pre-salt production came from 125 wells and corresponded to 71.2% of the total produced in Brazil.

In May, the use of natural gas was 97.8%. A total of 57.9 million m3/d were made available to the market. Gas flaring was 2.9 million m3/d, an increase of 2.4% compared to the previous month and an increase of 6% compared to the same month in 2020.

The Tupi field (formerly Lula), in the pre-salt deep water of the Santos basin, was the largest producer of oil and natural gas, registering 891 million b/d of oil and 41.1 million m3/d of natural gas.

The Petrobras 77 platform, producing in the Búzios field via five wells interconnected to it, was the facility with the highest oil production, with 143,075 b/d.

The Polo Arara facility, producing in the Arara Azul, Carapaúna, Cupiúba, Rio Urucu, and Southwest Urucu fields, via 32 interconnected wells, was the facility with the highest natural gas production, a total of 6.948 million m3/d.
