Market Adjusts Brazil’s 2025 Inflation Forecast Upward for 12th Consecutive Week

The Central Bank of Brazil’s Focus Report reveals ongoing shifts in economic projections. Economists have raised their 2025 inflation forecast for the 12th straight week. They now expect the IPCA (Brazil’s official inflation index) to reach 4.99%, up from 4.96% last week.

The 2024 inflation outlook improved slightly. Economists lowered their median projection from 4.90% to 4.89%. This minor adjustment suggests a cautiously optimistic view of near-term price stability.

Looking further ahead, the market raised its 2026 inflation estimate from 4.01% to 4.03%. The 2027 forecast also increased from 3.83% to 3.90%. These upward revisions hint at persistent inflationary pressures in the medium term.

The Selic rate, Brazil’s benchmark interest rate, faces upward pressure. Economists now predict it will reach 15% by the end of 2025, up from the previous 14.75% estimate. This suggests expectations of tighter monetary policy to combat inflation.

GDP growth projections remained largely stable. The 2024 forecast held steady at 3.49%. For 2025, economists slightly raised their outlook from 2.01% to 2.02%. These figures indicate moderate economic expansion in the coming years.

The exchange rate outlook saw minor adjustments. Economists now expect the Brazilian Real to trade at 6.00 to the US Dollar in 2025, up from 5.96 in the previous forecast. This slight weakening could impact import costs and inflation.

These projections reflect a complex economic landscape. Policymakers face the challenge of balancing growth with price stability. The market’s evolving outlook underscores the need for vigilant economic management in the years ahead.
