Jake Bugg at Citibank Hall in Rio on November 28th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – English singer-songwriter and guitarist Jake Bugg returns to Rio on Friday, November 28th to perform live at Citibank Hall in Barra da Tijuca. Bugg has released two studio albums and is known for his contemporary folk and indie rock sounds.

“I’m looking forward to playing in Rio, always a great crowd,” Bugg told The Rio Times. “[On tour] I’m playing songs from the first and second album plus a couple of new songs.”

Bugg has toured Brazil before and most recently performed as part of Lollapalooza in São Paulo earlier this year.

After playing live in Porto Alegre on November 25th and then in São Paulo on the 27th, Rio will be his third stop in Brazil on the current tour, which is in support of his sophomore release entitled, Shangri La.

Born Jake Edwin Kennedy in England, almost twenty-one years ago, Jake took his father’s name Bugg as his stage-name and originally rose to fame following a 2011 appearance at the Glastonbury Festival. That performance lead to airplay on BBC radio stations, TV appearances and the release of his self-titled debut album in 2012.

The album, co-written with songwriter Iain Archer, proved to be a massive success, earning Bugg multiple nominations including the BRIT Awards for British Breakthrough Act and NME’s Best Solo Artist and Best Album. Bugg won the Q Award for Best New Act in 2013.

When asked what originally inspired him to become a musician, Bugg replied, “My uncle gave me a guitar and showed me a few chords and it all went from there. Donovan, Everly Brothers and old blues players are my main inspiration.” Bugg later added, “Vangelis and recently Michael Kiwanuka inspire me.”

Bugg released his second album, Shangri La, during September of last year. The release includes the songs, “Slumville Sunrise,” “Messed Up Kids,” “There’s A Beast And We All Feed It,” and “A Song About Love.”

In the four short years of his professional career, Bugg has made multiple television appearances, been part of the lineup of several music festivals, toured the world and has gained a large international following.

The inclusion of his song, “Seen it All,” in the Rede Globo novela (prime-time soap opera), “Além do Horizonte,” helped to win over numerous fans in Brazil.

When asked what work or moment he was most proud of in his career thus far, Bugg said, “Playing the Royal Albert Hall last year was pretty special.” A recording of that performance will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 15th. During that night Bugg was joined by special guests Michael Kiwanuka and Johnny Marr.

Citibank Hall doors will open at 6PM on Friday the show is scheduled to begin at 9PM.
