Iron & Wine Performs Live in Rio de Janeiro September 3rd

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – American indie, folk, and roots singer-songwriter Sam Beam, who performs under the moniker Iron & Wine, will play live at Sacadura 154 in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday, September 3rd. He is best known for his folksy tunes gently voiced over his acoustic guitar.

Following a September 2nd show in São Paulo, Beam’s show at Sacadura 154 in Rio’s Port Zone neighborhood of Saúde will take place thanks, in part to Queremos, a Rio-based crowdfunded/crowdsourced organization that connects musicians, agents, fans and venues.

During Beam’s almost fifteen-year career, he has released five full-length albums, severals EPs, live albums and download only singles and EPs, as well as, vinyl EPs and LPs. He is currently touring in support of his fifth studio album entitled, Sing Into My Mouth, which was released earlier this year in July.

The album features twelve folk-infused versions of others’ works performed by Beam with Band of Horses singer Ben Bridwell. The tracks include Beam and Birdwell’s reinterpretations of Talking Heads’ “This Must Be the Place,” Spiritualized’s “The Straight and Narrow,” Sade’s “Bulletproof Soul,” and Bonnie Raitt’s “Any Day Woman,” among others.

Beam explained the song selection for the album, telling The Aspen Times earlier this month; “It was an intuitive process. They’re all just songs that we liked for one reason or another – songs that had stuck with us over the years or that we had heard recently. But there was a big stack of songs and we just got to a handful of them.”

Before Sing Into My Mouth, Beam released Archive Series Volume No. 1, a collection of demos, rarities and covers, including Beam’s rendition of Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights” and some of Beam’s early works made before and during the recording sessions for his 2002 debut album, The Creek Drank the Cradle.

Born and raised in the American state of South Carolina; a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and Florida State University Film School; and a current resident of Durham, North Carolina, formerly Austin, Texas-based, Beam is firmly rooted in American Southern culture and its diverse soundscape.

His well-known songs include “Upward Over the Mountain” from The Creek Drank the Cradle; “Flightless Bird, American Mouth,” and “Boy With a Coin,” both from the 2007 album, The Shepherd’s Dog; and “Naked as We Came,” from the 2004 album, Our Endless Numbered Days.

Sacadura 154‘s doors will open at 10PM on Thursday, Sepetember 3rd and Que Se Folk will perform before and after the Iron & Wine show.
