Grenergy develops solar projects in Colombia with an investment of more than 700 million dollars

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Colombian President Iván Duque and the Minister of Energy and Mines, Diego Mesa, inaugurated today the Tucanes solar park built by Grenergy Renovables in the department of Bolívar. Grenergy Renovables is a Spanish company with a project portfolio of 1,000 MW in the country, whose total investment is estimated at US$700 million.

This photovoltaic plant was inaugurated during an institutional event attended by Grenergy executives and professionals involved in its construction. It is part of a series of distribution projects with a capacity of 72 MW, which will create 700 jobs during the construction phase and whose annual production of 140 GWh of energy is sufficient to supply renewable electricity to more than 40,000 homes per year.

The sale of energy is secured by a long-term energy sales contract with Celsia, and the construction was financed by the local Bancolombia. These projects will avoid the emission of about 50,000 tons of CO2 per year into the atmosphere.

As part of Grenergy’s sustainability plan and in its effort to achieve positive social impacts in the areas surrounding its projects, the company has also promoted the hiring of local labor in the construction of this wind farm. In addition, it promoted the participation of women in the pre-assembly, bolting and assembly of solar panels, involving 18 local women in the construction of Tucanes.

The commissioning of Grenergy’s projects is in line with the Colombian government’s strategy to combat climate change and transform energy by promoting renewable energy.
