Full Disclosure: Trump Orders Release of 80,000 JFK Assassination Files This Week

President Donald Trump announced Monday that his administration will release nearly 80,000 pages of previously classified documents related to the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy, with the disclosure scheduled for Tuesday.

The decision follows Trump’s January executive order mandating the release of all remaining records tied to JFK’s killing, as well as those linked to the assassinations of Robert F. Kennedy and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

The FBI recently uncovered approximately 2,400 new files during compliance efforts with Trump’s order, adding fresh material to the decades-long saga. The Warren Commission’s 1964 conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone remains disputed.

In a 2023 Gallup poll, 65% of Americans rejected the official findings. Conspiracy theories persist, fueled by Oswald’s murder before trial and alleged CIA ties, though investigations have found no evidence of agency involvement.

The release marks the culmination of a transparency push initiated by the 1992 JFK Records Act, which required full disclosure by 2017 unless national security concerns warranted delays.

Despite Trump’s 2017 pledge to release all documents, agencies withheld thousands of pages at intelligence requests. During his first term, Trump disclosed 2,800 files, while the Biden administration later released 17,000 more, leaving fewer than 700 still withheld.

Trump emphasized that the upcoming release will include unredacted materials, aligning with his broader effort to reverse “overclassification” of government documents.

The move coincides with efforts to declassify records on Robert Kennedy’s 1968 assassination and King’s killing, signaling a shift toward addressing lingering public skepticism about high-profile Cold War-era deaths.

The documents’ release—scheduled for Tuesday—promises to shed light on one of America’s most enduring mysteries, though expectations of explosive revelations remain tempered by decades of incremental disclosures.
