RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Between January and April 2022, Ecuador’s Internal Revenue Service (SRI) collected US$414.5 million for the temporary wealth tax, both from companies and individuals.

The tax was established in the Economic Development and Fiscal Sustainability Law, which came into force in November 2021.

Companies paid US$306.2 million. Companies with assets over US$5 million made this contribution; the rate is 0.08%. The Law establishes that they must pay this tax for two years – they will also pay this contribution in 2023.
