Dollar drops against Brazilian real after a conservative Copom meeting
The commercial dollar started Thursday’s session falling, one day after the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom), of the Central Bank, adopted a conservative tone in relation to its monetary policy.
In today’s session, besides the repercussion of Copom’s decision, the financial agents should keep an eye on the external scenario, in another session marked by speeches of the president of the Federal Reserve (Fed), Jerome Powell, in the US Congress.
Around 9:55 am, the commercial dollar was traded at R$ 4.7580, down 0.21%, while the future contract for July of the American currency showed a drop of 0.08%, at R$ 4.7650.

Abroad, there was no clear movement defined, with most currencies oscillating between a slight appreciation or devaluation.
Copom kept interest rates unchanged at 13.75% yesterday but adopted a conservative tone in relation to a possible loosening of monetary policy.
Even though it has removed harsher passages from the text, such as the alternative scenario and the chances of new hikes in the basic rate, the committee did not leave a clear margin for a drop in the Selic in August.
In the reading of the Spanish bank BBVA, policymakers seem to be in no hurry to start easing their policy.
“Moreover, given the limited amount of data that will be released until the next meeting and some positive gasoline price effects in the coming months, expectations for an early August cut may be lowered, keeping our September expectation lower with a 0.50 percentage point start,” it says in a note.
“The decision should be slightly favorable for the duration and loading of the real.”
