Colombia: photovoltaics still do not cover 1% of the electricity demand

Data from the national grid operator XM Compañia de Expertos en Mercados (“XM Market Expert Company”), regarding energy sources, shows hydroelectric plants with reservoirs as the largest contributors, with 85.83%, equivalent to 153.54 GWh-day average, which represents a 2.18% decrease compared to the previous month.

The performance of photovoltaics in June was 1 GWh-day on average, 0.56% of the total and 0.30% less than the previous month. Wind power accounted for 0.08% of this share, with an average of 0.14 GWh-day, 21.90% more than in May.

The best performance was for biomass, 0.94%, corresponding to an average contribution of 1.69 GWh-day, 38.40% better than the previous month.

The current Colombian government – which will be succeeded next month by a new administration presided by the elected Gustavo Petro – claims to have put into operation 25 solar parks, two wind farms, ten large-scale self-generation projects, and more than 3,000 small-scale photovoltaic self-generation projects with a capacity of 880 MWp.
