Bus Attacks Shake São Paulo, Threaten City’s Daily Life and Economy

Since June 2025, São Paulo has faced a serious wave of attacks on city buses. Official records from the city’s transport authority and the Public Security Secretariat show more than 400 buses have been damaged in just one month.

On some days, nearly 60 buses were hit. The violence has spread to nearby cities, affecting the entire region. Most attacks involve people throwing rocks or other objects at moving buses.

Some passengers have been hurt, and many are now afraid to use public transport. The attacks have been most frequent in the south and west parts of the city.

One bus company, Mobibrasil Transporte, has been targeted more than others. São Paulo relies on public buses to move millions of people every day.

When buses are damaged or routes are closed, workers cannot get to their jobs on time, and deliveries are delayed. Businesses lose money, and the city’s economy slows down.

Repairing or replacing damaged buses also costs the city and transport companies a lot of money. Police have arrested several people and are investigating if criminal groups or online groups are organizing the attacks.

The city has deployed almost 8,000 police officers and more than 3,600 vehicles to protect bus routes. Still, attacks continue, and city leaders have criticized the slow pace of the investigation.

These attacks show how quickly public safety problems can affect daily life and business in a big city. São Paulo’s experience is a warning to other cities: keeping public transport safe is not just about protecting people, but also about keeping the economy running smoothly.
