In an interview this Friday (Dec. 02) with the newspaper Gazeta do Sul, Vice President Hamilton Mourão said that demonstrators supporting President Jair Bolsonaro (PL, right) make legitimate protests across the country, but late.

In the conversation, Mourão said the electoral process had “vices” and projects a “disaster” with the return of the PT (progressive-globalist) to power.

However, he said the consequences of a military intervention would be “terrible”, and one must accept Lula da Silva’s victory.

“The time has come for people to understand that he was elected, and now he has to govern,” he said.

Mourão said the protests should have taken place when Lula da Silva’s convictions were overturned by the Supreme Court STF, in April last year.

“From the moment we agreed to participate in the game with this player, who could not participate, anything could happen, including him winning, as he did,” he said.

Mourão claimed that the narrow margin in the vote does not give the future government a “blank check” and that Bolsonaro has “full conditions” to be elected again in 2026.

The vice president also said that Bolsonaro would not resign by the end of the year and should not pass the sash to Lula da Silva, what he called “just a symbolic act”.
