Brazilians trust the armed forces significantly more than the justice system

The list uses data from IBGE’s Continuous National Household Survey collected in 2021. The surveyed population is aged 15 and up.

According to the survey, the confidence in the Armed Forces (75.7%) was 25 percentage points above the index for Justice (50.2%).

In second place is the institution formed by the Army, Navy and Air Force. The fire department is the only institution ahead of it (87.7%).

The Civil Police (almost 67%) and the Military Police (66%) ranked third and fourth, respectively.

The fifth place went to the municipal guards (60%).

Among the institutions, Justice appears in the sixth – and last – position, with almost 50%, that is, half the population does not trust the judicial system.

Besides evaluating the performance of institutions, the IBGE’s Trust Ranking measures the results for social centers.

In this case, the family got the best result (86%), followed by friends (62%), neighbors (51%), and colleagues from activities such as work and school (45%).

Comparing the list formed by institutions with that of social centers, the courts come in second to last place – with more credibility only than work and school colleagues.
