Brazilian vehicle production up 43.9% in August; highest since November 2020

Brazil’s automobile manufacturers’ production in August reached 238 thousand units, including passenger cars, light SUVs, trucks, and buses, the highest volume in 21 months.

This figure exceeds the total for the same month in 2021 by 43.9%. Compared to July, the increase was 8.7%, according to the balance published on Friday (9) by Anfavea, the vehicle industry association.

This is the highest vehicle production since November 2020, when 238.2 thousand vehicles were assembled in the country.

With this result, automakers reverse the negative sign, recording a 4.7% increase since the first day of the year, with 1.55 million units assembled in the first eight months.

Although irregularities in the supply of parts persist and production is partially or totally interrupted at assemblers such as Volkswagen and Nissan plants, the interruptions have become less frequent, allowing supply to be restored.

As a result, the industry could deliver more vehicles to fleet customers, especially rental car companies, which enabled August to be the best sales result in the past 20 months.

In all categories, 208.6 thousand vehicles were sold last month, 20.7% more than a year earlier and 14.6% more than in July.

Between May and July, the daily sales rhythm ranged between 8.5 and 8.7 thousand, exceeding 9 thousand units for the first time this year.

Thus, showing the balance Anfavea, the market decline in cumulative since the beginning of the year, which was 12% until July, has been reduced to 8%, with 1.31 million vehicles sold from January to August.

Exports continue to rise, adding 46.8 thousand vehicles last month, 58.9% more than in August 2021.

On the margin, from July to August, shipments increased by 11.7%, with Argentina as the leading destination.

In the first eight months of the year, automakers exported 335 thousand vehicles, representing a growth of 32.2%.

The Anfavea survey also shows that automakers opened 255 new jobs in August, ending the month with 104,200 employees. In twelve months, 1,100 jobs were created in the sector.
