Brazil STF Justice Moraes rejects Prosecutor General’s request and upholds inquiry into Bolsonaro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Federal Supreme Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes upheld the opening of an inquiry against President Jair Bolsonaro for the false association he made between the Covid-19 vaccine and the risk of contracting the AIDS virus.

In Tuesday’s decision, Moraes rejected Prosecutor General Augusto Aras’s arguments to review the inquiry.

Aras on Monday argued that the Prosecutor General’s Office is investigating the case and that the inquiry would result in a double investigation of the same facts, which is illegal.

The Justice granted the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGR) 24 hours to submit the preliminary proceedings on the same facts to the Court, under penalty of contempt of court order and obstruction of justice, should the order be ignored.
