Brazil: President Lula blames Ukraine as well for the war with Russia

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said the war between Russia and Ukraine is happening only because both countries wanted it to.

He made the statement this Sunday, 16, during a visit to the United Arab Emirates.

“The two countries decided on war,” Lula said.

The Brazilian President’s analysis differs from that of the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

The President’s evaluation does not consider that Russia invaded the neighboring country in February 2022.

On that occasion, the Kremlin ordered the army to bomb autonomous regions of Ukraine.

The Ukrainians retaliated, and the war escalated.

Lula’s argument displeased the US and most of Europe since the President had said he would adopt a more neutral tone on the war.

Recently, Lula stressed the need to form a group of countries to mediate a peace agreement.

“It is necessary that the US stops encouraging war and starts talking about peace,” said LuThe European Union must start talking about peace so that we can convince Putin and Zelensky that peace interests everyone, and the war is only interesting to the two of them.”
