Volkswagen brings electric Kombi to Brazil

During Rock in Rio, Volkswagen will present its new electric version of the Kombi. Currently, the vehicle is only sold in Europe. For example, Germany has a waiting list to purchase this car, which costs approximately €54,000 (US$ 54,000).

Called ID. Buzz, the new version of the Kombi, is based on the first generation of the vehicle, the T1, and brings one of the greatest icons of automotive design into the era of electric mobility.

The model is equipped with a 77 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, which supplies current to a 204 horsepower (hp) electric motor. Depending on how it is charged, the battery of the electric Kombi can rise from 5% to 80% in just 30 minutes.

The last Kombi (in the traditional version) had its production terminated in Brazil in 2013. The country was the last to discontinue manufacturing the vehicle. Now, the “revamped” version of the car will be on Brazilian territory in September.

Two electric models of the Kombi will be on Volkswagen’s stand at Rock in Rio. The event will start next week in the capital city of Rio de Janeiro.

The original Kombi was a success in Brazil for six decades. The model arrived in Brazil in 1957. Its last “model” was produced in the São Bernardo do Campo (São Paulo) plant.
