Poll shows DeSantis trailing Trump by 40 points in Republican nominating polls

According to a recent national poll, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is trailing former President Donald Trump by 40 points in the Republican nomination race.

The Morning Consult poll, released on Tuesday, puts Trump at 56% of voting intentions among Republican voters and DeSantis at 17%.

This polling data, tracked since last December, indicates a significant gap between the two, with DeSantis at a notably low point in this specific poll.

The survey also suggests that DeSantis would trail by five points in a direct contest with current US President Joe Biden.

Conversely, in the same hypothetical matchup, Trump would only trail Biden by one percentage point.

This poll was conducted from July 7 to 9, surveying 3,616 potential Republican primary voters with a margin of error between 2% and 4%.

Author and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy is third in the poll with 8% of voting intentions, followed by former Vice President Mike Pence at 7%.

The Republican Party will commence its electoral cycle for the 2024 U.S presidential elections with electoral assemblies in Iowa on January 15.

This state traditionally marks the start of the electoral calendar, followed by New Hampshire.

The Democratic Party, on the other hand, has scheduled South Carolina as the first date in their primary election process on February 3.
