Methanol-infused drinks kill 54 people in Peru

The Peruvian Ministry of Health announced that at least 54 people have died from methanol poisoning in Peru since mid-September.

The deaths occurred when the number of hospitalizations due to methanol poisoning increased significantly in and around Lima.

Authorities linked this to bottled alcoholic beverages contaminated with this toxic substance.
