Don Mario, founder of the Gulf Clan, sentenced to 35 years in prison

Former Gulf Clan leader and founder Daniel Rendón Herrera, aka "Don Mario," was sentenced to 35 years in prison by a New York court for drug trafficking, to which he had already pleaded guilty in 2021, as well as terrorism and financing a criminal organization.

Local media reported that Don Mario, one of the leading drug lords and paramilitary leaders in the history of Colombia's armed conflict, was also fined US$45.7 million for bringing more than 73 tons of drugs into the United States.

The sentence includes 15 years in prison for "conspiracy to provide material . . .
