New time-saving container route connects China’s northeastern port of Tianjin with Latin America
Tianjin, a key port city in Northern China serving greater Beijing, launched a new direct maritime route to Central and South America on Saturday, aiming to streamline transport times, as reported by the official Xinhua agency.
This new initiative is being implemented by nine 35,000-ton container ships managed by Wan Hai Lines.
According to Marc Shia, a representative from the company quoted by the agency, the route will include ports in various countries, including Mexico, Panama, Colombia, and Ecuador.
Shia pointed out that the new route will reduce shipping times by a third.

“Products, particularly frozen seafood, fruits, and vegetables from South America, will be transported to Tianjin in 25 days,” he said.
Tianjin, home to 15 million inhabitants, is situated about 130 kilometers from Beijing.
In recent years, its port has risen among the ranks to be included in the world’s top ten ports by cargo turnover.
The trade volume between China, the Asian powerhouse, and Latin America reached US$485.7 billion in 2022.
This figure marks an annual growth rate of 7.7%, according to data from the China-Celac Forum.
With the newly established maritime route, these trade relations are expected to further strengthen in the upcoming years.
