COVID-19: Peru has 74.1% of its population immunized with both doses of the vaccine

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Peruvian Ministry of Health (Minsa), through its social networks, communicated that up to 20:00 hours yesterday, December 19th, 47,282,033 doses were applied to protect the population.

Of the total, 20,851,994 correspond to the second dose. Therefore, if we refer to percentages, 74% of people already have both doses against COVID-19.

When reviewing the report of the Single National Repository of Health Information (Reunis), which belongs to the Minsa, it was found that from the beginning of the vaccination in Peru until 00:00:05 today, the total number of doses applied increases to 47,316,774, and of that amount 24,136,734 doses were used as the first vaccine, 20,868,815 for the second application and 2,311,225 for a third dose.

PERCENTAGE VACCINATED

This figure for the second dose is equivalent to 74.1% of the target population, and that for the third dose is equivalent to 22.1%.

Let us recall that the target population corresponds to men and women over 12 years of age in Peru. According to the Ministry of Health, the total number of the group in question is around 28 million people.

It is also known that during December 19th, 88,143 people were inoculated. Of this total, 20,275 received their first dose, 43,207 their second dose, and 24,661 the third dose, also known as “booster dose”.

RANKING OF VACCINATED POPULATION BY CITY

The elaboration of this ranking of the five cities with the highest and lowest number of vaccinated people in Peru corresponds to the last information published on Reunis, which was up to 00:00:05 today, December 20th.

Five regions with the highest number of vaccinated with two doses:

– Ica, with 85.1% of its population vaccinated.

– Callao, with 82.0% of the population vaccinated.

– Ancash, with 81.6% of its population vaccinated.

– Lima, with 79.2% of its population vaccinated.

– Arequipa, with 77.3% of its population vaccinated.

Five regions with the lowest number of vaccinated:

– Madre de Dios, with 44.8% of its population vaccinated with two doses.

– Puno, with 46.1% of its population vaccinated.

– Ucayali, with 54.0% of its population vaccinated.

– Loreto, with 54.9% of its population vaccinated.

– Ayacucho, with 57.4% of its population vaccinated.

Likewise, the regions with less than 70% of their population inoculated with both doses total 12. Apart from those mentioned above, we also find Amazonas (57.5%), Huánuco (59.3%), Huancavelica (63.3%), and San Martín (64.8%) among others.

VACCINATIONS AT CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR

The Minister of Health, Hernando Cevallos, informed that vaccination sites would continue to serve the population for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

“We have brigades ready to vaccinate every day, including Christmas. There is personnel that, despite the holidays, will continue vaccinating. We will come to the commercial emporiums everywhere to facilitate vaccination. What we want is the people’s willingness to get vaccinated”, he said.

The head of the health portfolio was also emphatic and left a message of reflection to the population to avoid gathering for the end-of-the-year celebrations.

“The right to health and the protection of all citizens comes before going to a party. We would like to get together, go to dances, but this is not possible (…) we must stay in the family bubble and not stop wearing the double mask. It is not about thinking about how I have fun tomorrow, but how I take care of my future, that is why the vaccine is hope; it is to have a future”, affirmed Cevallos.
