Free NASA-Telescope Exhibit Opens in Bogotá This July

Some of the most striking images ever taken of the cosmos are coming to the Colombian capital. Eyes on the Universe Bogotá brings a free exhibition from one of the world’s great museums to the city’s planetarium.

The show, developed by New York’s American Museum of Natural History, opens on 23 July and will be free to the public for around two months, the city government said. It is the museum’s first exhibition in Colombia.

A tour of the observable universe

The exhibition assembles images from some of the most important telescopes and missions in history, the Hubble and James Webb space telescopes and the Gaia star-mapping mission, offering a visual journey through galaxies, nebulae and star clusters millions of light-years away.

Presented at no cost, it is pitched squarely at a broad audience: children, students and curious adults who may never look through a research telescope but can stand before what one has seen.

The start of a partnership

The exhibition also marks the beginning of an alliance between the American Museum of Natural History and the Planetario de Bogotá, intended to strengthen science outreach and draw new audiences to astronomy. For a free public institution, an international partnership of this kind is a notable coup.
