Argentina: Province of Córdoba exports grapes to Brazil again after ten years

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Argentina’s National Agrifood Health and Quality Service (Senasa) certified the export of 22 tons of fresh grapes for consumption without bromide, which is a milestone because it is the first shipment of this fruit from the province of Córdoba to Brazil in the last ten years.

The shipment complied with the measures agreed with the Brazilian agency concerning the Lobesia botrana pest. The certification was carried out by agents of Senasa’s Córdoba Regional Center in an establishment located in the town of San José del Valle de Traslasierra.

In this context, the Argentine sanitary entity indicated that “the strategy promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries of the Nation, headed by Julián Domínguez, to continue adding markets for Argentine agri-food products is strengthened”.

To export fresh table grapes to Brazil, Senasa carried out the respective inspections under the risk mitigation system (SMR) agreed with the border country, which allows the shipment of the vine without methyl bromide treatment, which favors the quality of the fruit. Other requirements requested by Brazil were also verified.

The province of Córdoba is recognized in Argentina as an area free of Lobesia botrana thanks to the fact that Senasa has installed a network of traps against the pest in the area of vine crops that its agents monitor regularly.
