After controversial remarks on war, Brazilian President Lula now condemns the violation of Ukraine’s territory

On Tuesday (18), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said he condemns the “violation of the territorial integrity” of Ukraine and that he defends a “political and negotiated” solution to the war.

The statement came after a series of controversial statements by the Brazilian president that were perceived as pro-Moscow by Western powers.

“While my government condemns the violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, we advocate a negotiated political solution to the conflict.”

“I spoke of our concern with the effects of the war, which go beyond the European continent,” Lula said.

The declaration occurred during a lunch at the Itamaraty Palace with the president of Romania, Klaus Werner Iohannis.

Recently, the Brazilian president has said that Ukraine is also to blame for the war and that the US and the European Union have encouraged the war.

On Monday (17) US government said that Brazil “parrots” Russian and Chinese propaganda about the invasion.

The speech, given by White House National Security spokesman John Kirby, occurred when the Lula administration received Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov.

The European Union’s foreign affairs spokesman, Peter Stano, responded to Lula and said that prolonging the conflict is Russia’s fault.

“It is not true that the United States and the European Union are helping to prolong the conflict.”

“We have offered Russia numerous possibilities for a negotiating agreement on civilized terms,” the European bloc spokesman said.
