Venezuela’s government will request the removal of the existing blockade against the nation at the 3rd Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union (EU) in Brussels, as Vice President Delcy Rodríguez stated.
Vice President Rodríguez has also highlighted a contrast in Western spending habits, noting a higher investment in conflicts and military affairs than climate crisis mitigation efforts.
“Our mission is to advocate for equality, peace, and unified action against the climate crisis,” Rodríguez said.
Upon arriving in Brussels to attend the summit, Rodríguez wanted “respectful relations amongst equals.”
The Venezuelan government, on July 11, backed the concerns voiced by the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, regarding the EU’s influence over the structure of the CELAC summit.
The concern is that the EU’s unilateral decision could disrupt the meeting, seen as a significant forum for dialogue and cooperation among Latin American and Caribbean nations.
This CELAC-EU meeting is the first of its kind in eight years.
