RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The unemployment rate in Brazil stood at 12 percent in the quarter ending June 30, 2019, a reduction of 0.7 percentage points in relation to the previous quarter (January, February, and March), when the rate had stood at 12.7 percent.

There are 12.8 million unemployed in the country and 28.4 million who work fewer hours than they could.
The median real income fell 1.3 percent, dropping from R$2,321 in the first quarter of the year to R$2,290 in the last measurement.
The number of people who gave up looking for work has remained at a record high of the labor force — 4.4 percent, which adds up to 4.9 million people.
