The president of Peru evaluates decreeing a state of emergency throughout the country

The president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, has acknowledged that she is evaluating the possibility of decreeing a state of emergency at the national level in the face of protests derived from her own ascent to the Presidency after the dismissal and arrest of Pedro Castillo as Andean president.

The clashes between the Police and the protesters have already led President Boluarte to declare a state of emergency for 60 days in the regions of Ica, Arequipa and Apurímac, the epicenter of the protests.

However, citizen mobilization has expanded throughout the country to nine other regions -Lima, Huancavelica, Junín, Áncash, La Libertad, Cajamarca, Cusco, Puno, Tacna, San Martín, Madre de Dios and Amazonas-.

Within the framework of this wave of mobilizations – in which the Cuzco airport has even been occupied and the trains to Machu Pichu paralyzed – the authorities have confirmed the death of at least seven people and around 120 policemen injured.
