The Bolivian opposition condemns the imprisonment of Camacho

Representatives of the political formation Creemos, of Governor Luis Fernando Camacho, have affirmed that the kidnapping of the opposition leader is a “blow” to democracy and the autonomies, while they have reproached that he is kept in prison and has been suspended from position for which he was elected without any final judgment against him.

All this occurs in a context in which the governor of the province of Santa Cruz was dismissed last week through a decision by the Justice Minister of Luis Arce, Iván Lima, who pointed out that in the absence of Camacho his functions should be fulfilled by the lieutenant governor, Mario Aguilera.

Lima also indicated that if this procedure is not carried out, it would initiate criminal proceedings against the authorities that operate within the governorate.

Thus, the parliamentarian of Creemos, Tatiana Áñez, affirmed that this decision has no legal basis, since the figure of the “temporary suspension” of a position of this nature does not exist in the Bolivian Constitution. “Unfortunately, the MAS once again intends to go back to the time when mayors and governors were suspended only with accusation,” she added.

Likewise, Áñez called on other authorities from different provinces and who oppose the Arce regime to join forces in the defense of their regions, the fight against drug trafficking and, of course, the release of Camacho.
