Rio’s Sonoridades Music Festival at Parque Lage on December 5th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Sonoridades music festival will return on Saturday, December 5th for its fifth edition. In addition to free live outdoor musical performances, this year the festival will also include visual performances, art, and DJs spinning live.

Held in Oi Futuro Ipanema during its previous four editions, this year the festival will take place at Escola de Artes Visuais (School of Visual Arts), better known simply as EAV, at Parque Lage in Jardim Botânico.

“We are proud that Oi and Oi Futuro can continue their partnership with Sonoridades, which this year expands its horizons beyond the cultural center, so it can welcome an even broader audience,” said manager of Culture for Oi Futuro Ipanema, Roberto Guimarães in a release.

He adds, “During its five-year history, we’ve built together this space for innovation and boldness in Brazilian popular music, by valuing the mixture of rhythms, accents and genres.”

This year’s event will feature eight hours of live music and performances by musicians, artists, and DJs chosen by Nelson Motta, who has curated the festival since it’s beginning in 2011.

The DJ collective Vinil é Arte will start the festival at 6PM followed by a live performance by Ava Rocha with guests Negro Leo and Jonas Sá at 7PM. São Paulo DJ Tahira will then spin at 8PM followed by a life performance with Marcos Valle and guest Azymuth at 8:30 PM.

DJ Tahira will then return to spin at 9:45 PM, followed at 10:15 PM by a performance by +2, a group featuring members Moreno, Domenico, and Kassin. DJ Nepal will spin at 11:30 PM followed by a live performance by Bixiga 70 with special guests João Donato and Juçara Maçal. DJ Nepal will then close out the night with his second set beginning at 1:30 AM.

“It is a synthesis of five years of work,’ said curator Nelson Motta, “with many different formats, artists near the stage, new performers and notable collaborative performances.”
