São Paulo Will Only Allow New Year’s Eve and Carnaval Events After Vaccine
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Yesterday, July 15th, the governor of São Paulo, João Doria, said that New Year’s Eve and Carnaval celebrations will only be possible after people are vaccinated against the novel coronavirus, as these create crowds.

Doria pointed out that Brazil currently records almost 2 million infections and over 74,000 deaths from the novel coronavirus. “It is the country’s greatest tragedy ever. There is nothing to celebrate,” said the governor.
“We shouldn’t be celebrating either New Year or Carnaval in a pandemic. Only with a vaccine ready and administered and immunization done can we have celebrations that are part of the country’s calendar. But not right now,” he said.
To date, the state totals 393,176 confirmed cases of people infected with novel coronavirus, with 18,640 deaths from the disease.
