São Paulo — A crisp winter Sunday with scattered clouds and a high of 24°C — perfect for a long lunch outdoors before sunset.

The city’s big museums are open and quiet this morning, with MASP and the Pinacoteca running full hours.

Markets closed the week on a cautious note after a global tech sell-off — check the (Business & Markets / WEEK IN FIGURES) board for Friday’s settled levels.

Today is for walking Avenida Paulista, catching a late-afternoon feira, and finding a corner bar with live samba by 7 pm.

São Paulo, daily life and what's on.

The week ahead stays dry and stable with highs between 24°C and 25°C and overnight lows around 13°C — no washouts on the horizon.

What to See & Do
SUNDAY IN SÃO PAULO

TODAY’S PICK — ART & ARCHITECTURE

Walk the Paulista spine, from MASP to Ibirapuera

Start at MASP (Avenida Paulista, Bela Vista) when doors open at 10 am — the permanent collection ‘Acervo em Transformação’ hangs in the iconic glass easels, and the 2026 cycle of Afro-Brazilian and contemporary shows is included in the same ticket (R$40 full, R$20 meia).

Walk west down Paulista, which is closed to cars and open to pedestrians until 4 pm — the street fills with buskers, food carts and families on a mild winter afternoon.

Cut down into Jardins for lunch at Ráscal (Alameda Santos, around R$70–100 per person with wine) or grab a casual mortadella sandwich at the Mercadão da Paulista stalls (R$25–35) and eat on the steps outside.

After 2 pm, take a 15-minute ride-share to MAC USP in the grounds of Parque Ibirapuera (Vila Mariana side) — the contemporary art displays are free and the building’s brutalist lines look best in late-afternoon light.

The park is buzzing by 4 pm — rent a bike, sit under a jabuticabeira, or just walk the lake loop before sunset at 5:40 pm.

OUTDOORS — MARKETS & GREEN SPACE

Sunday feiras and a quiet park afternoon

The Liberdade Sunday feira (Praça da Liberdade area) runs from morning until mid-afternoon with free entry and street-food stalls selling yakisoba, tempura and sweet potato cakes for R$15–25.

Parque Villa-Lobos (Alto de Pinheiros) opens at 5:30 am and offers bike paths, picnic lawns and live chorinho music near the main kiosk from 2 pm — free, with pay-as-you-go coconut water.

Sundays carry no rodízio restriction — drive across town freely and park near Ibirapuera, Pacaembu or Villa-Lobos without worrying about plate numbers.

COFFEE & WHERE TO WORK — JARDINS & PINHEIROS

A quiet Sunday laptop session

Coffee Lab (Rua Fradique Coutinho, Pinheiros) opens at 9 am on Sundays with reliable Wi-Fi, single-origin espressos (R$10–15), and a shared table culture that welcomes laptops until mid-afternoon.

Sofá Café (Rua Oscar Freire, Jardins) serves flat whites and pão de queijo from 8 am — quieter on Sunday mornings, with fast Wi-Fi and good window light for a couple of hours of deep work.

For a full coworking day-pass, GoWork Avenida Paulista offers Sunday access from 9 am to 6 pm (around R$80) with booths, meeting rooms and bottomless coffee.

THE CONTRASTING PLAY — LATE NIGHT SAMBA

Sunday is the new Saturday in Vila Madalena

While the museums close at 6 pm, Vila Madalena wakes up late on Sundays — bars along Rua Aspicuelta and Rua Fradique Coutinho fill with live samba from 7 pm onwards.

Ó do Borogodó (Rua Horácio Lane) runs its famous Sunday roda de samba from 8 pm, entry R$30–50 — arrive by 7 pm to get a table, no reservations.

It’s the opposite of the daytime art crawl: loud, sweaty, unapologetically Paulistano — and the caipirinhas cost R$25.

TONIGHT, AFTER 7 PM

Live music, long dinners and a football catch-up

Bar Riviera (Avenida Paulista, Bela Vista) keeps its terrace open until midnight with bossa nova from 7:30 pm — cocktails R$40, no cover on Sundays.

In Itaim Bibi, Tanit (Rua Jerônimo da Veiga) serves a Mediterranean dinner menu (mains R$80–140) with a low-lit garden and jazz playlist — good for a date night or a solo meal at the bar.

If any São Paulo club is playing a late Brasileirão fixture, the match will show on screens at São Cristóvão Bar (Rua Aspicuelta, Vila Madalena) and O’Malley’s (Rua Mourato Coelho) — both open past midnight.

Ride-hailing is normal tonight but expect brief surge pricing in Vila Madalena and around Augusta after 10 pm.

Museu do Futebol — Pacaembu — Praça Charles Miller — 9 am–6 pm, R$20 full / R$10 meia. Interactive deep-dive into Brazilian football history, good for a pre-lunch visit.

Getting Around
TRANSPORT

Rodízio is suspended on Sundays — all license plates can circulate freely across the city, including the expanded centre.

Metrô and CPTM run standard Sunday service with reduced headways — no full-line closures announced, but expect longer waits early morning and late evening. Ride-hailing platforms report normal availability citywide.

05
Where to Eat
LUNCH & DINNER

Lunch: Ráscal (Alameda Santos, Jardins) does a generous Sunday buffet with salads and hot dishes for R$89 — book ahead for the terrace. For something quicker, Bar do Luiz Fernandes (Casa Verde, R$40–60) serves unpretentious feijoada on Sundays from noon.

Dinner: Tanit (Rua Jerônimo da Veiga, Itaim Bibi) runs a Mediterranean menu with mains R$80–140 in a low-lit garden — ideal for a long, quiet dinner. Jiquitaia (Rua Bela Cintra, Consolação) plates shareable modern Brazilian dishes (R$60–90) until 11 pm and takes Pix or card.

06
Practical Info
GOOD TO KNOW

Carry a light jacket and sunglasses — the afternoon is mild but the temperature drops quickly after sunset. Most museums and bars accept Pix, credit and debit cards, though a handful of street-feira stalls still prefer cash.

Book a table for dinner if heading to a named restaurant in Jardins or Itaim — Sunday evenings fill up fast with groups. Museum tickets can be bought at the door; MASP sometimes has a queue after 11 am so aiming for opening time saves a wait.

Stick to well-lit main streets and busy bar strips if walking in Centro or around Luz after dark — the Pinacoteca neighbourhood is fine during the day but quieter at night.

07
Community & Lifestyle
FOR NEWCOMERS

The ‘Expats São Paulo’ Facebook group is organising an informal coffee walk on Paulista this morning — check the group chat for the meet point near MASP at 10:30 am.

Newcomers can plug into the Sunday roda de samba at Ó do Borogodó — it’s a welcoming, multilingual crowd and a reliable place to meet Paulistanos and fellow nomads in a relaxed setting.

08
Game Day
THE WEEKEND ROUND

No São Paulo club fixture has been confirmed for this Sunday — the last Brasileirão matchday wrapped on Saturday, with Palmeiras holding in the top half and Corinthians still fighting to pull clear of the relegation zone.

The football conversation shifts to midweek training and transfer gossip — sports desks are watching São Paulo FC’s away-form debate and Santos’s efforts to stabilise after boardroom changes.

If you want to catch a replay or any late fixture that lands on the schedule, São Cristóvão Bar (Vila Madalena) and O’Malley’s (Rua Mourato Coelho) show Brazilian league matches on big screens and stay open past midnight.

Looking ahead, F1’s European swing continues, with Interlagos later in the year drawing early chatter among the motorsport crowd — no race today but it’s a good afternoon to rewatch qualifying highlights over a chopp.

09
Business & Markets
WEEK IN FIGURES

Latin American markets closed the week lower — the Merval, COLCAP and USD/COP all settled Friday in the red, as emerging-market assets absorbed a global risk-off move driven by a U.S. tech sell-off.

The spillover matters for expat professionals in São Paulo: a cooler U.S. inflation print earlier in July had briefly lifted sentiment, but chip and AI stock declines pulled indexes back, leaving the outlook cautious ahead of the Monday open.

For the week ahead, eyes are on Brazilian trade data and any further signals from the Fed on rate policy — expect emerging-market currencies and local equities to stay linked to offshore tech sentiment in early trading.

QUICK ANSWERS

Yes — the municipal rodízio de veículos only applies Monday through Friday. On Sunday, July 26, no plates are restricted and you can drive freely across all zones of the city, including the expanded centre.

Parking in popular neighbourhoods like Jardins and Pinheiros is easier on Sunday mornings but fills up near parks and feiras after midday — garages around Avenida Paulista offer flat Sunday rates around R$30–50.

Are the museums actually open on Sunday, and do I need to book ahead?

Yes — MASP (Bela Vista), Pinacoteca (Luz), Museu do Futebol (Pacaembu), Museu da Língua Portuguesa (Luz) and MAC USP (Ibirapuera) all open on Sundays, typically from 9 or 10 am until 6 pm.

Tickets are sold at the door — no advance booking is mandatory for general admission today. MASP costs R$40 (full) / R$20 (meia), Pinacoteca R$30 / R$15, and MAC USP is free. Arriving at opening time helps avoid queues.
