Rio de Janeiro Daily Brief — Monday, July 13, 2026
Grey but dry: INMET calls 15–23°C under heavy cloud with light south-westerlies and no rain on the chart, so the city is yours on foot.
It is Monday, which in Rio means one thing — Moacyr Luz and the Samba do Trabalhador play their classic Monday roda today (13/07), with the Pedra do Sal roda as the Centro alternative.
Money talk is upbeat: the Ibovespa jumped 2.97% on Friday to 177,866.37 — its best close since 14 May — after June’s IPCA came in below expectations and firmed bets on an August Selic cut.
Read this as a two-act day: free culture in Centro until dusk, samba in Andaraí after — and save your legs, because World Cup semi-final week starts tomorrow at 4 pm BRT.

Weather & What to Wear
FOUR-DAY OUTLOOK
Today feels like proper carioca winter: a 15°C start, a 23°C peak and thick cloud morning to night, with weak winds off the south-west — soft light, no sweat, no umbrella.
Wear layers: a light jacket for the morning and evening rodas, a t-shirt underneath for the midday walk; it has been a dry month, with only 5 mm of rain in Rio so far in July — 14% of the monthly average.
The week improves steadily: Tuesday brings 15–24°C with morning mist, Wednesday clears with a crisp 13°C dawn, and Thursday opens out to few clouds and a 28°C high — that is your beach day.
Sunset today: ≈5:25 pm — daylight is stretching again after the 7 June earliest sunset of 5:15 pm, gaining 18 minutes across July · Water off Copacabana is about 22.5°C with average wave heights around 1.3 m — a bracing dip for the hardy, spring-wetsuit territory for surfers; swim by the manned postos and respect the flags.

What to See & Do
MONDAY IN RIO DE JANEIRO
CCBB by day, Samba do Trabalhador by night
Most Rio museums rest on Mondays, but the CCBB (Rua Primeiro de Março 66, Centro) is the great exception — closed Tuesdays, open Wednesday to Monday, 9 am to 8 pm, and entry is free: take Metrô Line 1 or 2 to Carioca or Uruguaiana and walk.
Inside, Vik Muniz — A Olho Nu runs on the 1st floor until 7 September, the interactive tech show Integra runs 08/07–17/08, and the XXI RioHarpFestival fills the Rotunda and 3rd-floor auditorium with free recitals through 31 July.
Pick up free tickets at the bilheteria on arrival or book at bb.com.br/cultura; lunch without leaving the building — the Confeitaria Colombo branch inside the CCBB, or restaurant Lilia on the ground floor and mezzanine.
Mid-afternoon, ride Line 1 to Saens Peña and take a short taxi to the Renascença Clube (Rua Barão de São Francisco 54, Andaraí): gates open 4 pm, the samba runs from 5 pm, tickets around R$ 20 — recent editions have charged R$ 30, starting 4.30 pm and closing 9.45 pm, so carry cash and arrive early for a table.
If Zona Norte feels far tonight, the fallback is glorious: the Samba da Pedra do Sal at Largo João da Baiana, in the port zone, from 7 pm — beer by ficha (batches of cans) and nothing to pay to listen.
Dry, mild and windless is exactly what the seafront ciclovia wants: roll Leblon → Ipanema → Arpoador and be on the rock for the roughly 5:25 pm sunset — winter’s low light is the best of the year for the Dois Irmãos silhouette.
The sea is about 22.5°
