President of the Congress of Peru urges Pedro Castillo to leave office

The President of the Congress of Peru, José Williams, on Monday urged the Peruvian President, Pedro Castillo, to leave his post through a vacancy in his position, alleging that the country’s Parliament is “dissatisfied” with his management.

“We told the president that we, the parliamentarians, are not happy with the management that he is doing, that it seems to us that the management is not adequate (…) It is obvious that he has to leave due to a vacancy or a constitutional accusation”, indicated the congressman in an interview with Willax TV.

Specifically, Williams made reference to the deterioration that the State would be suffering due to the appointments that it is making with the ministers that make up its Cabinet, among which three Foreign Ministers stand out in two months, two Ministers of Transport and Trade (to the waiting for the third) in six months, or seven interior ministers in a year.

“To this, we add that the State is deteriorating in relation to its efficiency as a bureaucratic organization that must carry things forward,” said the president of the Peruvian Congress.

In this sense, the head of the Parliament revealed that, during the meeting he had with the Peruvian president on September 16, he confessed to him the discontent on the part of the Parliament for his Government and asked him to leave office.

During his meeting, Williams told Castillo his concern about the president’s alleged attempts to influence up to six investigations that the Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office has opened against him.

“When asked by a media outlet, I described the situation in which the Executive Power is involved as unfortunate. I reaffirm that the Prosecutor’s Office is doing its job in accordance with the Law. The less the forces of order get their hands dirty, it will be better for the nation,” said the president of the Peruvian Parliament during their meeting, according to the RPP radio station.

The relationship between the Congress and the Government of Peru has been in decline in recent months, to the point that the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) had to show its concern over the situation of conflict between the two powers.
