Peru generates US$658 million in coffee exports
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Based on estimates made by the company Fresh Fruit, between January and November 2021, Peruvian coffee exports reached 170,526 tons for a value of US$658 million. Compared to 2020, shipments fell 13% in volume and grew 13% in value. The increase was achieved at an average coffee price of US$3.86 per kilogram, 29% higher than in the previous period.
In line with what was published by the company specialized in commercial intelligence for the agro-export sector, the increase in the price of Peruvian coffee is due to a rise in demand, which suppliers could not meet.
Regarding shipment volumes, these were not only reduced in Peru since a frost in Brazil has caused a cut in the coffee harvest. Therefore, the pause in agricultural coffee production and the increase in U.S. demand have driven the price of this product up significantly.

The main buyers of Peruvian coffee were the United States (23% share), Germany (21%), and Colombia (11%).
In terms of shipments, 38,854 tons were exported to the United States, valued at US$158 million, 4% less in volume, and 24% less in value compared to the previous year. The average price paid for this grain in the U.S. market was US$4.06 per kilogram, 26% more than in the last period. In addition, the main buyers of this product were Starbucks Coffee Trading Company, with a 12% share, and Rothfos Corporation, with 10%.
In the same context, 34,973 tons were shipped to the Netherlands, generating US$144 million, 19% less in volume, and 11% more in value. In the European market, Peruvian coffee traded at US$4.12 per kilogram, 37% more than the previous year. The most important buyers were Ahold Delhaize Coffee Co.
