Paraguay wants to have a Canadian embassy

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Paraguayan government reiterated its interest in having a permanent Canadian diplomatic delegation in the country. The objective is to strengthen commercial ties and everything related to the bilateral agenda.

The intention is to advance a possible free trade agreement between this North American country and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur).

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Euclides Acevedo, held an audience with the Canadian Ambassador to Argentina, Reid Douglas Sirrs, concurrent in Paraguay.

On behalf of Paraguay, he expressed to the diplomat the importance of having a Canadian embassy to take advantage of the potential that would result from a closer and more direct relationship between both countries.

On occasion, they also expressed their willingness to advance in the Mercosur-Canada Free Trade Agreement negotiation process, considering that Paraguay currently holds the biannual Pro Tempore Presidency (PPT) of the South American regional bloc.
