Paraguay’s space agency (AEP) launched a project to develop the second national satellite, GuaraniSAT-2.
The second phase of the Paraguay into Space initiative was announced Wednesday during an event at the Ministry of Defense.
The ceremony was attended by officials from AEP and the national electric company Ande, among other authorities.

The country’s first satellite, GuaraniSAT-1, was designed and built by Paraguayan engineers with support from Japan for scientific and academic purposes.
It was launched in the US in February 2021.
The nanosatellite – or CubeSat – was developed by AEP in association with the Japanese Kyutech Institute of Technology and the Japanese space agency JAXA.
NASA was contracted to carry out its launch.
The second device will be along the same lines since the design, assembly, integration, launch, and operation of the GuaraniSAT-2 satellite will be carried out by Paraguayan engineers trained in Japan, informed the Government of Paraguay.
As part of the new project, the country will carry out a series of initiatives with national laboratories within SPACELab, a network of space systems laboratories.
According to the government, the idea is to strengthen these laboratories to meet future satellite requirements.
The authorities did not disclose an estimated timeline for completing and launching the new satellite.
