Paraguay must strengthen sustainable growth to be competitive

Paraguay has a great diversity of natural resources, being one of the few in the world, a fact that can benefit the economy if growth with sustainable development is further strengthened, since the United Nations is interested in helping countries in development paths with significant funds, said economist Aníbal Insfrán.

Insfrán explained to La Nación/Nación Media that there are challenges and opportunities regarding the green economy and that “we need to go there.” In this sense, he cited the UN Conference on climate change in Egypt, where important funds were ratified that include two items: funds to combat climate change of more than US$100 billion and the creation of another compensation for disasters. natural as a result of climate change.

He also added that the Montreal Protocol for the protection of the ozone layer created a fund to support the conservation of biodiversity, as is the case in Paraguay. “There are many opportunities there. Paraguay still has too many natural resources that we must take advantage of. This is the great opportunity to grow sustainably, doing good for people, the environment and the economy in general”, he stated.

He also explained that in order to have greater traceability for Paraguayan products it is necessary to certify the country. “This is going to give us very good conditions in terms of traceability and environmental sustainability, in addition to additional income in premium markets with good conditions, the green economy is convenient for us everywhere,” he assured.

Finally, he clarified that this path is optional, but that if Paraguay do not make the decision, it would miss out on entering important markets. He also recalled the methane agreement, to which Paraguay did not sign and that as a result our market finds itself in the need to continue selling meat at a higher price.
