By · December 30, 2021 · 1 min read

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “We were sent interesting results (from Chile’s top health authority) in terms of adverse events in children,” Health Surveillance Director Maria Antonieta Gamarra said in a Ministry statement.

“Now, the approval of Sinhoparm is in progress, we are awaiting reports from Argentina’s National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT) to finalize its approval,” she added.

Paraguay has approved the use of the Coronavac vaccine against Covid-19 from Chinese Sinovac pharmaceutical company for children aged 5 to 11.

The Coronavac vaccine will now join Pfizer’s, the only one approved for children in the immunization program. The Ministry did not specify when it will begin administering the doses to this age group.

With 7 million inhabitants, Paraguay has reported 465,000 cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic and over 16,000 deaths. Almost 3 million have completed the vaccination schedule with two doses and some 415,000 have received the booster dose, according to the latest official report, dated December 28.
