Ousmane Sonko, a key opposition figure in Senegal, ended his hunger strike

Ousmane Sonko, a key opposition figure in Senegal, ended his hunger strike today. He started the strike on July 30 to protest his arrest.

He got very sick and went to the hospital on August 17.

El Malick Ndiaye, Sonko's party spokesperson, announced the end of the strike on social media.

Sonko is in jail now. He faces charges like encouraging revolt and endangering the country.

His arrest caused riots in Dakar and other cities, with at least two people dying.
